TWO HOT SOCIAL SECURITY ISSUES For Colorado Public Employees! U.S. House and Senate bills have been introduced to repeal the Government Pension Offset (GPO) and Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP).
Colorado retired public employees who survive their spouses are unfairly penalized with a pension offset that deducts an amount equal to two-thirds of their public pension (PERA) benefits from their Social Security survivor benefits. Others are unfairly penalized by an offset that takes away Social Security benefits they earned themselves. These two offsets are discriminatory, unfair, and need to be fixed. Call-in-Day Contact members of Congress and tell them your story about the dramatic effects of GPO/WEP on your current or future income security. Call the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask for your representative and senators by name. The Senate bill number is S. 484. It is identical to H.R. 235, introduced in the House of Representatives this January. The Senate bill has 11 bipartisan cosponsors; the House bill has 181 bipartisan cosponsors.
Tell your U.S. Senators and Representative:Stop penalizing public service!
