Know Your Contract ESP- Job Responsibilities and Pay My job has changed since I was hired and I have a lot more duties and responsibilities. I also believe that my job pays significantly less than surrounding districts. Is there any way to address these two concerns?
The ESP contract provides: ARTICLE 17-6 Classification Committee The District will establish a joint committee to review the classification system. One third of the system will be evaluated each year. WEA will appoint the ESP members on this committee. This committee will also hear appeals from individuals each fall who believe their position should be reclassified. WEA strongly encourages every employee with concerns about whether he or she is classified correctly, or whether their job classification is being paid competitively, to bring the issue up to the joint classification committee in the fall of any year. While the committee will look at one-third of the ESP jobs each year, it also hears from individual members as well. The work of this committee then guides WEA negotiators when they bargain with the district in the spring. To submit a request for consideration, all you need to do is fill out the paperwork that is sent to you by HR. If you do not receive it, you can also find this on our web site – click here. Start by looking at your job description to see whether what you are required to do is what is stated on the job description. Then pay special attention to the point system jointly established with the help of NEA. Do a worksheet on your job to see how many points you should have. Then submit everything to the committee. And feel free to contact the WEA office if you need any help. WEA ESP representatives on this committee are Gary McKee, Terri Radcliff and Michelle Swank. Charmaine Waldman will be the staff person assigned to assist the committee. As with many other rights you have under the contract, the district is not obligated to inform you of your rights. It is up to you to Know Your Contract.
