Know Your Contract Purpose of the Faculty Advisory Committee There are a number of issues that keep coming up in our work site and many times we are not consulted. Is there some way to change this? Will complaints become part of my personnel file?
My principal told me that some parents had complained about my teaching, Do I have the right to know who is complaining? WEA Teachers: ARTICLE 25 – Professional Relationships Article 25-1 At the option of the faculty in each building, a Faculty Advisory Committee may be elected for such building. Article 25-2 The purpose of the Committee is to advise the building administrators in providing the best possible educational environment for such building. Article 25-3 The Committee may schedule such meetings, as it deems advisable after consulting with the principal to insure that the meeting contemplated is not conflicting with meetings that have already been scheduled and which require the attendance of those on the Committee. Article 25-4 When the Faculty Advisory Committee makes a recommendation to the principal orally or in writing, he/she shall respond to the recommendation in kind. WEA ESP Staff: Similarly, the ESP contract provides: ARTICLE 20 – Classified Advisory Committee Article 20-1 At the option of the ESP staff in each building/worksite, a Classified Advisory Committee may be elected for such building/worksite. Article 20-2 The purpose of the Committee is to advise the building/worksite administrator in providing the best possible work environment for such building/worksite. Article 20-3 The Committee may schedule such meetings as it deems advisable after consulting with the principal/administrator provided that the meeting contemplated is not conflicting with meetings that have already been scheduled and which require the attendance of those on the Committee, is held outside normal work hours, and attendance is voluntary. Article 20-4 When the Classified Advisory Committee makes a recommendation to the principal/ administrator orally or in writing, he/she shall respond to the recommendation in kind. WEA strongly encourages each worksite to establish such a committee so that our members have a method for addressing concerns on an on-going basis. The best time to set this up is before you have problems. But is never too late. Contact us if you need help getting this off the ground. Your building administrator is not required to inform you of your rights. It is up to you to Know Your Contract!
